After years scouring the globe for unique treasures, Byron Bay-based Tigmi Trading founder, Danielle McEwan, noticed a gap in the market for beautiful and consciously made local pieces.
“I was travelling the world to find timeless designs that had been expertly crafted and thoughtfully produced and at the same time, I was aware of the environmental cost of flying things all around the world,” says McEwan. “I had always wanted to create our own range of furniture, so was determined to work on a bespoke local collection that would embody all of these things – without the hefty carbon footprint.”
Danielle decided to design a new furniture collection with a simple starting point – it needed to be handmade locally, sustainably and to order.
“The vision was to work with local artisans to design and create a collection of furniture pieces in a way that was sustainably responsible, consciously handmade and supported the local industry by manufacturing here in Australia – without sacrificing on the craftsmanship or design of the product.”
