There’s nothing revolutionary about a claiming to take inspiration from its locale, but Loews Chicago has followed through this affirmation with serious dedication. Drawing on Carl Sandburg’s poem 'Chicago' as a starting point, local interior designers Simeone Deary Design Group have also explored the sizable influence of Mies van der Rohe on the city’s architecture in this 400-room hotel. This combination is manifested via rich tones of steel greys and warm golds, layers of luxe materials including mohair and cashmere, and low, modern furniture throughout. These set the scene for subtle references to soaring skyline, as witnessed in the lobby with an impressive two-story stone slab fireplace and huge twisted metal screens. The outdoor yoga deck, sitting adjacent to the in-house spa, is an unexpected retreat just one block from the Windy City’s river.
